Europol is pleased to announce the results of its annual law enforcement photo competition, which this year attracted entries from a host of talented photographers from across Europe and beyond.
Taken in locations ranging from Austria to Australia,* the photographs provide fascinating snapshots of the working lives of police, border guards, customs officials, dog handlers, student officers and more.
First prize has been awarded to Alfred Effenberger, a police officer with Landespolizeikommando Niederösterreichin, whose image captures Alpine police in training on a snowy mountainside in Hochkar, Austria.
Alessandro Grasso from Italy, a police diver with the Carabinieri Subacquei, clinches second prize with his dramatically-charged shot from the School of Marshals in Velletri, Rome.
Ciaran McGowan, an officer with An Garda Síochána Reserve, is awarded third prize with his image taken at a checkpoint in Cork, Ireland, targeting organised crime in the city.
The top three prizewinners win a trip for two to the Netherlands, including a visit to Europol. Their images will also feature in Europol’s 2015/16 corporate calendars.
* Photographers working for law enforcement agencies and law enforcement magazines in EU countries and those countries with Europol Agreements could participate.
