As part of the efforts to enhance cooperation between Europol and Albanian law enforcement authorities, a new cooperation agreement was signed today by Europol Director, Rob Wainwright and Mr. Saimir Tahiri, Albanian Minister of Internal Affairs.

The meeting at Europol’s headquarters in The Hague was also attended by Mr. Artan Didi, General Director of Albania’s State Police, Mr Gazmend Barbullushi, Ambassador for the Republic of Albania in the Netherlands, and Mr. Redi Voshtina, from the Albanian Europol National Unit.

It is expected that this new level of cooperation and understanding will be important for facilitating the fight against organised crime in areas such as trafficking of human beings, narcotics and firearms. The agreement allows for the exchange of strategic and operational information, including personal data on known and suspected criminals.

Europol’s Director, Rob Wainwright, highlighted progress in terms of cooperation between Albanian authorities and the EU police. “Through the signing of this agreement, we confirm our joint commitment and solidarity in the fight against serious organised crime and all forms of terrorist activity,” says Mr Wainwright.
