More than 50 police officers from the Budapest Police Headquarters, supported by Europol, carried out an operation focusing on combating motor vehicle crime, from 16-18 February 2011 in Hungary.

As a result of these activities, Hungarian Police carried out several house searches, which uncovered crucial evidence connected to the smuggling of vehicles outside the European Union. Europol carried out more than 600 checks on people, vehicles, means of communication and registration documents, as well as providing on-the-spot analytical support. Two targets were also arrested in Hungary during the operation.

This police activity is a part of large investigation into more than 170 suspects. The case is ongoing and new arrests, vehicle seizures and house searches are expected.
